David Cowan was born in Chicago in 1963, and is a former award-winning newspaper reporter and firefighter. He is an independent journalist and co-author (with John Kuenster) of the critically acclaimed book To Sleep With the Angels: (Ivan R. Dee, Inc.), about the Our Lady of the Angels school fire. Mr. Cowan’s work has also appeared in major newspapers and magazines, and he has been a featured guest on numerous television documentaries about historic fires. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he holds degrees in journalism and political science from Southern Illinois University.
