About me: I remember my Mom telling me about this tradgedy as a kid in the early 80's. She went to Catholic school in Maywood at the time and often spoke of watching the disaster on TV that same evening. I love reading of Chicago's past and a few years back, I came across The "Angels Too Soon" doc. on channel 11. I then immediatly read Cowan and Kuenster's book and McBride's as well. As it turns out, my office transferred me to a location on Chicago Ave. Now I drive through the OLA neighborhood daily. I always seem to make a little detour and pass down Avers, Iowa and Hamlin and say a little prayer. If anything, the knowledge of this event has awakened in me long forgotten memories of growing up Catholic. I feel a need to reconnect with the Church which I wrote off in high school. You guys have a great sense of community here. A community to replace the old neighborhood which probably died out as a result of the fire. Who knows what the area would look like if the fire never happened and the families stayed and put down more roots? At any rate, God bless all of you and thanks for letting me into yuor worlds.
