About me: I am Catholic, and I belong to Saint Mary's Parish in Huntley, IL. Back in 1958, I was living in Western Springs, Il. The day of the fire, I came walking in my home from afternoon kindergarten and my mother was watching our television set and crying. I very rarely saw her cry that hard. She told me that many children had died in a terrible school fire that day. The following two years, via the bus, I went to Saint Cletus School in LaGrange, Il. One of the topics of conversation between the children was the Our Lady of The Angels school fire. It was one of the scariest stories I had ever heard, only it wasn't a story. In October of 1961 my new school was built in Western Springs. It was within walking distance of my home. Saint John of the Cross was born - all glass, steel, and plastic, with plenty of fire alarms and fire drills, thanks to you! My parents and my uncle are buried at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, Il. I stop by the memorial to the children and the three nuns, saying prayers every time I am in the area. I never will forget what they did for me and future generations. God love them all! God love you all for what you went through!
