About me: I attended a Catholic grade school in Philadelphia that was similar in construction to Our Lady of the Angels. The neighborhood where I was raised - and still live - was working class and tight knit when I was growing up during the '70s, similar to the old neighborhood around OLA. I never heard of this terrible tragedy through 12 years of Catholic school. I learned about it a couple of years ago when it was briefly mentioned in a book about people escaping the World Trade Center on 9/11. I was taken aback by this, did a Google search and found this website. I was deeply moved by the photos, the memorial pages and this entire tragedy, which resonated with me as a former Catholic school student. I have visited Chicago and paid my respects both at the memorial on the site of the former school and at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. The children and the Sisters who perished that day as well as those who survived should never be forgotten.
