I grew up in Merrillville,IN. I was 11 yrs old and in the 6th grade there at the time. During the Summer of that year while on vacation with my family in Michigan I made friends with a girl abt. my age~~ possibly a year older. Her name was/is Margaret, i don't recall her last name now, but I do remember sitting in front of TV watching for her name on the lists. For the next couple of days all of our teachers spent some time talking to us about the fire. Then , after I was grown & in my early 20's I learned that one of my fellow managers in the Chicago Dept store I was working at had lost a daughter to that fire . She hung on for 3 months after the fire. So I feel a tie to OLA. ~~ Lynn Shafer
