About me: Although I was only a baby at the time of the fire my brother Robert was in 8th grade, my brother Gene and cousin Mike were in 6th grade, my sister Nola was in first, along with my cousins Danny and Frank (older). I have always thought deeply about how it impacted our families and why the Archdiocese never thought of offering some kind of psychological support to these kids and their families. I get that in those days they didn't do that, but these adults are still hurting. My own brother Gene cried at the Christmas Eve table about the stench of his coat months after the fire, approximately three years ago . He died about a year and a half after that. I'm angry that no one in the Pastoral Catholic community has thought to offer some peace to these older adults now as they face their senior years. I know for sure they suffer from some form of PTSD or deep grief or guilt. I'm sorry but as this generation moves forward they deserve something or some gesture of love for their suffering. I was only a baby as I said, but I still cry when our family discusses it or I read about it. I can't imagine how they handle it. I give the tragedy a voice whenever I can. The church should step up. I wrote a note to Father Lombardo at the OLA Dedication Ceremony several years ago and received no response.
