About me: |
My name is Michael A. Valente, and I am a fire captain with the Sandy Spring, Maryland, Vol. Fire Department. I have been in the Fire Service, both as paid and volunteer, for 28 years. I have studied many fires and other disasters of the past. I especially studied the OLA fire, primarily to learn the tactics utilized by the Chicago Fire Department at the scene, and the fire codes and their enforcment, and how the lack thereof is such a primary contributer to such tragedies. What was most significant is that
this fire really made me recognize the victims and their families
as people, not just another fireground task. It's easy to become
hardened after doing this work for nearly 30 years. God Bless.
