About me: I was born in 1956 on Chicago's North Side. I attended Our Lady Of Lourdes school (on Leland & Ashland) for kindergarten. My family moved the following year to St. Hilary's parish (Bryn Mawr & California) but due to the crowded grade school went to St. Timothy's School (on Washtenaw & Rosemont) and graduated in 1970. I was taught by the Benedictine Nuns (O.S.B.) during my formative years. St. Timothy's was built in 1928. The Depression arrived shortly after so the church as a separate building never came to be. It was on the first floor of the red brick three story building and the classrooms above on the upper two floors. It was terrifying looking down to the pavement and there were no fire doors on either floor. The staircases were concrete, steel and granite. I remember my mother telling us (I have five brothers) about "the fire" when we were children. I always wondered what became of the school, the people involved and the tragic consequences. I have read both books related to the fire and have the taped special from Channel 11. I only wish to say how impressed I am that you have managed to get together to share your memories and anguish over the events so long ago. The trauma to you, your friends and family is indescribable. The late 50's and early 60's were very similar and your memories bring me back to that time of my innocence and the neighborhood existence which is now long gone. My prayers are with and for you all. Kudos to the webmaster for making this possible. I visit this site often.
