I attended St. Anthony De Padua School in South Bend, Indiana at the time of the fire (I was 10) and remember vividly the news coverage and the horror of it. There were 7 children in my family and I worried that I wouldn't be able to get them all out of the school if that happened at ours. As a teacher,I often think about the fire safety of my own students. No, I was not at OLA but I was so upset by it that it has stayed with me all these years.
I have been married since 1971 and my husband Bill and I have 3 children. Kate is an English teacher at her old high school, Kennnewick High, Nathan graduates from Ohio State this year and Sarah is at Washington State University.
