About me: |
I was born in 1964 and attended IHM grade school on Chicago's NW side. I have always known about the OLA fire. I suppose either my parents told me or the nuns at school. I remember the fire drills and always taking them seriously. I am a very sensitive person and I am so saddened over what happened.
After the WTTW show, I spoke with my parents about it. My father related that he worked a couple of blocks away from the school and he clearly remembered that day. What stood out most in his mind was how everything ceased moving on the street each time an ambulance and a police squad passed by. He remarked that he got goosebumps just discussing it after all this time.
I have been lurking on this site since the show promo ran in Ch. 11's Network Chicago magazine. Although I probably won't post, I want to acknowledge my presence on this website.
