About me: |
I was attending school at the time of the OLA school fire, but my classroom was the first room out. I remember our second grade classroom walking out in single file to the convent across the street. It was very cold and quiet. I remember watching the smoke billowing out of the second floor windows and two of the older boys yelling for help. After what seemed to be a very short while, I watched them fall to the sidewalk. Although at the time I was too young to comprehend that my school was on fire, that picture is so vivid in my mind, I doubt I'll forget it. Within minutes, children began running and screaming. A neighbor girl, Elaine McClusky, picked me up and carried me home.
